I had the honor of lead instructing an NKT seminar at my distance coach’s beautiful facility yesterday.
Her name is Artemis Scantalides, and she co-owns Iron Body Studios with fellow SFG, Eric Gahan.
While we were at dinner, I noted to Artemis that I see her replacing fitness figures like Jillian Michaels and Tracy Anderson.
Artemis mentioned female representation of fitness and that she wasn’t “pink and fluffy,” female attributes that certain markets appreciate from their fitness representatives.
Artemis is strikingly beautiful and hilarious. And she’s right: she’s definitely not popping bubble gum and giggling as she presses 22 kilos over her 114-pound frame. (Yes, you read that correctly.)
She’s focused, and she’s tough while remaining kind. She’s beautiful, smart, and attentive.
Isn’t that what defines a great female? And a great human?
I’ve seen the pictures of girls squatting in shorts shoved up their gluteal cleft. That’s one way to be a female that lifts, sure.
But if I had to choose, I’d want to be like Artemis.
14 strict tactical pull-ups, all expressionless on the face.
A damn-near perfect Turkish getup on anyone’s standards.
Humor.
Strength.
Warmth.
Kindness.
Authority
Tenacity.
It’s not pink and fluffy. It’s a bright orange life force that shines like the sun.
I’ll choose the sun.
As always, it’s your call.
